Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise, best known for his role as the chief medical officer of the starship Enterprise. He is often portrayed as a compassionate and sometimes curmudgeonly physician, deeply committed to his Hippocratic Oath.
McCoy first appeared in the original Star Trek television series, in the episode "The Man Trap" (1966). He is a key member of the Enterprise's senior staff, alongside Captain James T. Kirk and Science Officer Spock, forming a dynamic and often argumentative trio. His folksy demeanor and aversion to technology often clash with Spock's logical Vulcan worldview.
DeForest Kelley originated the role of McCoy in the original series and the first six Star Trek motion pictures. Karl Urban later portrayed McCoy in the Star Trek reboot film series.
